Taste of Home

Taste of Home

Alina February 27, 2023

Enjoy food and drinks from chefs and restaurants around the county as they share their favorite tastes from home, during our first-ever Taste of Home event.
All proceeds support our newest 10-home community on El Norte Parkway in Escondido. Because of some significant permitting delays and tight funding deadlines, this site will almost entirely be built using skilled labor instead of our usual volunteers. We need the help of our entire community to help make affordable homeownership possible for ten new Habitat homeowners.
Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from our newest homeowners and fill their homes with good wishes by signing the exposed walls and beams on-site. Support the building of this project by participating in our raffle and auction, win fun prizes, and learn about all the ways that San Diego Habitat works within our region.

Hunt For Art

Alina November 17, 2022

There are many hidden art treasures in Escondido to be found, and we will discover them All. The treasure hunt/scavenger hunt gives you clues to finding them. But just to be fair, we will all leave at the same time. You will be given your first clue Saturday evening at 4:00 PM online. Then the next one is at the next location.

Upon finding and arriving, you will find the next clue, and so on. Each week we will discover hidden treasures about Escondido art and the artist that make it. Each hunt will take somewhere between 1 to 5 hours depending on you and your team.

You may choose to find the clue, and then quickly move on to the next clue, or you may want to simply stay awhile and enjoy the art at that clue’s location and then move on to the next one. You may opt to stay and enjoy the venue (Your 1st drink is on me and the theater tickets are paid for as well.) Teamwork is encouraged although not mandatory. The object is to have fun discovering Escondido’s hidden art treasures.

You will receive the link to the first clue online, and after your spot is reserved. All the other clues will be found in one of the hidden treasures in Escondido. You can take part in as many hunts as you like. They all start Saturday evening at 4:00 PM online, where you will be given your first clue for the night.

A donation will be made in your name after you pay for your entry to the Southern Sudanese Community Center of San Diego. Thank you for your participation. Good luck and have fun!

Your ticket gives you admission to hidden art treasures, admission to a few of the locations like the theater, and a glass of wine (if you are 21 years old.)  You will receive your 1st clue at the start of the event on Saturday night at 4:00 PM.

For the Love of Learning: STEMposium

Alina November 4, 2022

Early childhood education profoundly impacts how children perform in school and fare in adulthood. From navigating social relationships to problem-solving and creative thinking, investing in our children’s futures is more important than ever.

STEM and social-emotional learning in early childhood education lay the groundwork for countless skills children will need as they get older and become contributing community members. With the proper access and approach, educators and mentors can present children with learning opportunities where they can discover their own individual talents, tap into sources of inspiration and encouragement, and spark an innate love of learning.

Designed to spark your love of learning and stretch your thinking, we will explore the science behind early childhood education fundamentals and some of the latest advancements in the field. Registration includes a full day of learning from experts in the field, lunch, a museum tour, and a plenary networking session.
