Registration is now open for the third annual MoveFTT (Move For Their Thoughts)

BEGINS: September 18 through October 22, 2023.

ABOUT MoveFTT:

You may walk, run, bike, swim…just move! mile a day for 35 days to improve their brain health while helping dementia families feel seen, heard and not alone!

Registration may be as an individual or a team.

Participants pledge $1, $2 or $4 a day and earn their pledge back each day they accomplish at least one consecutive mile.  You may also donate you pledge back to the organization or opt to raise $100 through donations or individual sponsorships and join MoveFTT for free.

As a fundraiser, MoveFTT helps For Their Thoughts® Foundation to improve the lives of dementia caregivers nationwide by providing one-time, necessary financial grants and personalized care navigation to families who otherwise may feel alone and unsupported.

Little ones and their families are invited to experience the richness of San Diego’s diversity through storytimes, musical presentations, or hands-on activities with local community members to create meaningful discussions and insights into the many cultures they may encounter in their lives.

Tuesday, September 26 | 10am – 11am
Learn the stories of San Diego’s Indigenous people with ‘ataaxum Pomkwaan. Families will enjoy an interactive sing-along and an oral story of How the Stinkbug Came to be Black.

39th Annual Coastal Cleanup Day

This year, our countywide Coastal Cleanup Day returns with 100+ locations for volunteers to choose from, inland and coastal.
I Love A Clean San Diego leads the efforts during the event and is coordinated by the Ocean Conservancy with partnering volunteer organizations to create the largest international cleanup day in San Diego County. Data collected from this event is sent directly into the world’s largest database on marine debris and volunteers get to make a tangible impact in their communities.

13, the Musical

Evan Goldman is about to turn thirteen, and he can’t wait. When he is forced to move with his mom from big-city New York to podunk Appleton, Indiana, he must find a way to fit in. If Evan can’t get the coolest kids to come to his bar mitzvah, how is he going to survive the school year, not to mention, the rest of his life? As Evan navigates the world of cool kids and nerds, jocks and cheerleaders, first kisses and heartbreak, he comes to understand “What it Means to Be a Friend.” With a bright, catchy pop score from Jason Robert Brown, equal doses of humor and pathos, and a cast of wildly talented teens, 13 is irresistible to grown ups and almost-grown ups alike.

Artist Open House “Summer Fun”

Experience the captivating ambiance of the Brooks Theater Gallery’s Artist Open House, where “Summer Fun” takes center stage on June 16, from 5:30 pm to 8 pm. The “Summer Fun” art exhibition in the Sunshine Brooks Theater showcases the art of the North County Society of Fine Arts (NCSFA) members. Each piece has been judged by Gallery Curator Carol Naegele, and the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Honorable Mention winners will be announced during the Artist Open House. Enjoy ice cream sundaes, live Hawaiian and soft jazz music by Adrian DeMain, live art demonstrations, tours of the theater, and of course art! All are welcome to attend. 13th Annual Western Hoedown Fundraiser

It’s that time again to join us in supporting Ivey Ranch Park Association’s 13th annual Western Hoedown Fundraiser event. Your presence at the event and contributions are needed to continue Ivey Ranch’s growing integrative equine and care programs for special needs and able-bodied individuals alike.

The Western Hoedown is on Saturday, October 14th, 2023 and our guests will enjoy a barn-side steakhouse style dinner, music, a horse show, and a kid’s corral in addition to other fun activities. A flag ceremony will be presented by our local high school ROTC program. Guests will get to enjoy our horses, our community, and the special work we do at Ivey Ranch.

Since 1981, the historic site of Ivey Ranch has supported families and their children through specialized care programs as well as innovative equine programs. Currently, over two-thirds of our clients have moderate to severe genetic or trauma induced disabilities that have impacted their physical, behavioral, and/or cognitive abilities.

Last year Ivey Ranch served an average of 275 clients per week including children, veterans, low-income families and at-risk youth, as well as survivors of domestic violence, sexual abuse, and drug dependency. That equates to one thousand families, just last year, who have been touched by the work our programs offer.

Your support will help us to continue special programs such as Horses for Heroes, Therapeutic Riding, Equine Assisted Counseling, Equine Assisted Learning, Tailored Day Program (a working internship for adults with disabilities) as well as daycare and in-home respite programs for children and adults with special needs.

Ivey Ranch Park Association is a 501 (c)(3) organization and does not receive local, state, or federal government funding, so fundraisers like the annual Western Hoedown are vital to Ivey Ranch and its clients. The demands for our services have increased at a dramatic pace. Increases in demand have created a need for more capital improvements, equine experts, mental health counselors, teachers, in-home care providers, horses, equipment, supplies, and professional services.

The Whole Megillah Jewish New Play Festival presents Chagall

Chagall – A musical collaboration between writer/composer Yale Strom and writer/director Todd Salovey, this concert reading traces how Bella and Marc Chagall becoming refugees affected their lives and art.

The Whole Megillah celebrates new plays that are “unapologetically” Jewish and express the entire gamut of Jewish ideas, affiliations, and experiences.

Richard Lederer: An Afternoon of Language & Laughter

Columnist and author Richard Lederer will present his unique brand of language and humor. Lederer is the author of more than 50 books about language, history, and humor, including his best-selling Anguished English series and his current books, Amazing Words, Lederer on Language, and Monsters Unchained. His syndicated column, “Lederer on Language,” appears in newspapers and magazines throughout the United States, including the San Diego Union-Tribune, and he is a founding co-host of “A Way With Words” on KPBS Public Radio.

OTC Youth Summer Performance Camp: 13 the Musical

OTC Summer Theatre Performers focus on acting, singing, and dancing, while also honing audition skills, stage presence, and a sense of theater community. The camp culminates in a weekend of performances of a standard Broadway-style musical theater youth production. This year’s performance will be 13, The Musical. *Auditions will be done on the first two days of camp. Please be sure to bring all necessary paperwork to the first day of camp. Campers learn about the design aspects of a show, with set and lighting design projects as well as costume and makeup projects with the opportunity to use their skills on 13, The Musical, the Summer Youth Theater musical production.
