Earth Day on the Farm

Earth Day on the Farm

North County Philanthropy Council April 11, 2023

Celebrate Mother Earth and express gratitude for her ongoing generosity by giving back to the soil and trees this Earth Day.  At Coastal Roots Farm, we will be hosting volunteer tasks including mulching, weeding, and pruning – with opportunities to support with the staining and building of new waste receptacles and pergola roofs.

April 23rd 10am-2pm

Good for children over the age of 8 who are excited to volunteer on the Farm. Come for one or stay all day!

We invite you to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the Farm between different projects.

$18/per person suggested donation

(Maximum 30 volunteers)

10am – Spreading mulch and composting

11am – Weeding in the Welcome Garden

12pm – Pruning passionfruit vines

1pm – Staining benches, Nature Play stage, and chicken run

(Maximum 15 volunteers)

  • Build waste receptacles to place throughout the Farm
  • Build permanent pergola roofs near the Oak Tree

Spring Gardening Workshop; Composting

April 16th: Composting – Learn about vermicomposting and hot composting systems. Deepen your understanding of how to source materials and set up a vermicomposting system. Learn about different hot composting set ups and how to troubleshoot issues with your composting systems.

Ages 14+

$10/person per workshop

There is no experience necessary to join, gloves and materials provided.

Calling all foodies! Food is your canvas during this 4-part Springtime series. Get your farm and food fix alongside a diverse community exploring Jewish holiday cooking and learning.  

The ancient Jewish holiday of Lag B’omer celebrates light amidst the darkness and outdoor evening joyfulness. In honor of this upcoming holiday, join local Israeli chef Avi (owner of Pita 22 in San Diego) and Director of Jewish Life Rebecca Joy Fletcher as we cook yummy, traditional middle eastern dishes featuring Coastal Roots Farm produce, while exploring themes of light and darkness. To help our party along, we will also have a bit of live music…with the option to sing-along!

Bio Blitz on the Farm

Join the search for hidden species on the Farm!

A bio blitz is an event where people gather to identify and record as many species of plants and animals as possible within an area. This citizen-science initiative will help the farm team better understand, protect, and promote ecological diversity on the Farm.

Join us on April 18th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, for our first Bio Blitz on the farm.

No experience is necessary to participate, children and families are welcome.

Free event with a 20 person capacity so sign up soon!

Volunteers are asked to come prepared to the Farm with the following:

  • A fully charged cell phone.
  • I Naturalist app installed.
  • Seek app installed.

Calling all foodies! Food is your canvas during this 4-part Springtime series. Get your farm and food fix alongside a diverse community exploring Jewish holiday cooking and learning.  The spring-time Jewish holiday celebration of Passover teaches that how we experience life depends on our attitude. There are slaves who experience inner freedom, and free people who feel enslaved. In this hands-on cooking class led by a local star baker (tba) and CRF Director of Jewish Life Rebecca Joy Fletcher, we will play with ideas of freedom while learning to make yummy holiday dishes with the Farm’s own produce….and baking our very own Passover matzah breads in the Farm’s pizza oven! $36 per workshop per person. Pre-registration required. Max capacity 30 people.
