Farm Film & Music Series: Rooted

Farm Film & Music Series: Rooted

Monica Martinez June 22, 2023

Thursday, July 20th – Rooted follows the story of Germaine Jenkins, a rising star activist and urban farmer in Charleston, South Carolina — the hub of this country’s former slave trade. Germaine’s 5-year quest to gain ownership of the .8 acre parcel of land she calls Fresh Future Farm represents more than her struggle to grow healthy food to combat the toxic diet in her food desert community; as a present-day kind of sharecropper, it mirrors the historic struggle of the Black community in a dominant White system.

7pm Doors open. Enjoy live music by Aura Walmer and tabling with local organizations.

8:30pm Screening: Rooted

All people welcome. Guests are encouraged to bring their own blankets, chairs, food, and drinks to enjoy the evening on the Farm.

Please leave your furry pets at home, we are a pet-free facility!

Farm-Food for Thought: Monthly Hands-On Workshops with a Jewish Twist; Mocktails & Cocktails

Monica Martinez June 5, 2023

Jewish tradition imagines the weekly Sabbath (Friday to Saturday evening) as a queen. So, just like preparing a banquet for royalty, there’s a special opportunity each Sabbath eve to host folks at your table, and to uplift the moment not only through ritual but also through special food and drink. On Thursday evening, June 22nd join a star line up — Director of Jewish Life Rebecca Joy Fletcher, sommelier Nora Mitchell (CRF outdoor educator), and chef Julia Meyer (CRF Post-Harvest and Distribution Coordinator) – as we guide you outside at our Coastal kitchen in a hands-on exploration into the wonderful world of cocktails, mocktails, and Farm fresh produce appetizers fit for a queen. Because why shouldn’t you and your guests feel like royalty sometimes too?
