Aperture Duo – Sonic Chapel Concert Series

North County Philanthropy Council February 28, 2019

Aperture Duo curates fearless programs that explore new sounds, voices, and techniques through the lens of violin and viola chamber music. Lauded for their “precision and interpretation” along with their “distinct sense of unity and independence” (icareifyoulisten.com), Los Angeles-based Aperture Duo was founded in 2015 by violinist Adrianne Pope and violist Linnea Powell. Equally at home performing old and new music, Aperture Duo actively commissions diverse new works to expand the violin and viola duo repertoire.

Program:

whisper / sing / speak

A theatrical chamber music concert featuring performance art, improvisation, and virtuosic playing while singing. The program includes four Aperture Duo commissions with two world premieres by emerging US and Mexican composers. Works by Alex Temple, Erin Rogers, Nicholas Deyoe, Noah Meites, Andrew Tholl, and George Aperghis.

Carlsbad Music Festival presents the Sonic Chapel concert series featuring Aperture Duo on March 8, 2019. Concerts take place in St. Michael’s intimate wooden chapel and tickets are $15, $25, and $35, depending on seating location.

Ashley Bathgate – Sonic Chapel Concert Series

North County Philanthropy Council February 1, 2019

American cellist Ashley Bathgate has been described as an “eloquent new music interpreter” (New York Times) and “a glorious cellist” (Washington Post) who combines “bittersweet lyricism along with ferocious chops” (New York Magazine). Her “impish ferocity,” “rich tone,” and “imaginative phrasing” (New York Times) have made her one of the most sought-after performers of her time. The desire to create a dynamic energy exchange with her audience and build upon the ensuing chemistry is a pillar of Bathgate’s philosophy as a performer.

Program:
Partita No. 1 “Songs and Poems” for solo cello (2007)…..Philip Glass (b. 1937)
Assemble…..Emily Cooley (b. 1990)
Why Women Weep: IT IS THE QUICKEST WAY TO REJOIN THE OCEAN…..Pamela Madsen (b. 1952)
Augun…..Fjóla Evans (b. 1987)
Velvet…..Kate Moore (b. 1979)

Carlsbad Music Festival presents the Sonic Chapel concert series featuring Ashley Bathgate on February 15, 2019. Concerts take place in St. Michael’s intimate wooden chapel and tickets are $15, $25, and $35, depending on seating location.

Box office opens one hour prior to concert. Concessions and merchandise for sale before concert and during intermission. http://bit.ly/2RZBvH4http://www.carlsbadmusicfestival.org/sonic-chapel-2019/
