Sangam-Sonic Chapel concert series

Sangam-Sonic Chapel concert series

North County Philanthropy Council January 18, 2019

The Carlsbad Music Festival presents a new concert series of adventurous chamber music by the beach, Sonic Chapel. Sangam duo is the first of three concerts in the series.

Sangam is a chamber music duo of sitarist Paul Livingstone and cellist Peter Jacobson that performs innovative compositions and improvisations straddling the worlds of Indian classical music and European polyphony. Their unique counterpoint is imbibed with the free spirit of a jazz improvisation and incorporates touches of Latin and popular music styles.

Paul and Pete have been recording and touring together for more than ten years performing new world music with Arohi Ensemble, Build an Ark, and Quartetto Fantastico, among many other projects in the creative Los Angeles music world. They have been featured on three Grammy Award-winning records with Ozomatli, Quetzal, and Rickey Kej.

For this concert Sangam will be joined by Miles Shrewsbery, a tabla disciple of Abhiman Kaushal.

Sangam means “a confluence of rivers,” it is a meeting place of disparate streams flowing into one. Enjoy an afternoon of unique musical meditations & dynamic poly-rhythmic counterpoint.

Concert program of original works will be announced from stage.
