Meet Our Members: The Elizabeth Hospice

Meet Our Members: The Elizabeth Hospice

North County Philanthropy Council April 12, 2023

All hospice providers are not the same.

The Elizabeth Hospice, a local independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit hospice leader, has been and continues to be a community resource for hospice care, palliative care and grief support services to children and adults in San Diego County and Southwest Riverside County since 1978.

As a nonprofit hospice, we offer care to everyone in the community; no one in need of services has ever been turned away for financial reasons. We are one of only a few hospice providers in the country to have a dedicated team that cares for children diagnosed with advanced serious or terminal illnesses. Our comprehensive grief support services, which include individual counseling and support groups, are open to all community members, regardless of patient affiliation or how their person died.

The Elizabeth Hospice’s caregivers are trained to support veterans, addressing post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, survivor’s guilt, and soul injury. Additionally, our veteran pinning ceremonies honor and thank veterans for their military service.

The clinicians, staff and volunteers of The Elizabeth Hospice pride themselves on high-quality, compassionate care. We earned the Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission, an independent not-for-profit organization that certifies and accredits healthcare institutions across the US. This certification demonstrates our commitment to quality and dedication to excellence.

If you know someone facing the challenges of an advanced serious illness who might benefit from the care and support provided by The Elizabeth Hospice, please encourage them to call 800.797.2050 or visit www.elizabethhospice.org. We’re here to help.

Meet Our Members: The Collaborative Group

North County Philanthropy Council April 12, 2023

Andrea Muir, Kathy Fremdling, and Leta Keyes first met at the Episcopal Community Services Gala committee. Working together to raise donations and awareness for the ECS programs, they realized that their unique skill sets and experiences could make a significant impact in the non-profit sector. This realization led to the formation of The Collaborative Group.

Andrea is a non-profit expert with extensive experience in board development, fundraising, donor cultivation and stewardship. Her ability to build strong relationships with donors and stakeholders is crucial to the success of any non-profit, making her a valuable asset to The Collaborative Group.

Kathy is a highly skilled graphic designer with a deep understanding of event branding and messaging. Her designs effectively communicate a message and help bring marketing and branding materials to life, resonating with donors and supporters. With her expertise in event branding, The Collaborative Group can help create memorable marketing and branding materials that effectively promote events and raise awareness for important causes.

Leta is an experienced event planner with a talent for creating eye-catching silent auctions and developing compelling live auction packages. She has a thorough understanding of the complexities involved in organizing successful non-profit events, with a knack for managing logistics and ensuring that every detail is taken care of to provide a seamless event experience for attendees. Leta’s expertise in event planning is a necessity for non-profit organizations that have the heart and the drive to make a difference but lack the resources to do so.

The Collaborative Group was founded on a shared passion for making a positive impact in the non-profit sector. By combining their strengths, Andrea, Kathy, and Leta have created a powerful team committed to helping non-profit organizations achieve their goals. Their collaborative services range from board development, fundraising, donor cultivation and stewardship, to graphic design, event planning, and fundraising support. They have become a valuable resource group, making a significant difference in the world of non-profit.

Premier Members Making a Difference: PRAVA

North County Philanthropy Council April 7, 2023

What do you benefit most from being a member of NCPC?

Community outreach and charitable giving are a large part of our culture here at PRAVA Construction. It is our honor to be able to network and learn about new organizations and the ways that PRAVA can continue to serve our community.

What is your Mission?

Our mission is leadership through service. Our strong commitment to collaboration and open communication on our project sites allows us to help our clients with cost, value, and scheduling, to maximize their resources.

What do you offer to the community?

We are engaged with our community through service, leadership, and excellence in business.

  • As a General Contractor, we are enabled to assist in the revitalization of our local communities for the betterment of our surrounding neighborhoods. We are a full-service general contractor that specializes in technical commercial/industrial construction projects. Proudly family-owned and operated we run our business on the same principles on which we have established our family: Integrity, Partnership, Dedication, Fairness, Respect, and good old-fashioned hard work. We provide the personal service and flexibility of a small builder but have the experience and strength of a large contractor.
  • Outside of construction, PRAVA’s engagement continues to grow considerably through charity work, volunteering, fundraising, industry affiliations, and diversity. The Prava Team is dedicated to community partnerships throughout the year; including the San Diego 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank, the Boys & Girls Clubs of North County, Canine Companions, and the San Diego Blood Bank, to name a few.

What was your organization/company’s biggest accomplishment in the past six months – one year?

In the 4th quarter of 2022, we implemented a hybrid work schedule for the benefit of our employees. We prioritize having a healthy work-life balance as we are family-owned and oriented and we feel this has increased the work-life balance by cutting down on commutes and allowing our employees some flexibility. Since we implemented our hybrid program, we have seen a large increase in morale! This has also made large impacts on our sustainability by cutting down on commutes, gas, time on the road, and allowing for more virtual collaboration options.

What event/program or campaign do you have coming up that you would like to share with our readers?

PRAVA is participating in several upcoming events! On April 1st, we have a team participating in the Race for Autism, a 5k run that fundraises for Autism Initiatives that work to improve the lives of those with autism. On April 15th, we are partnering with the Boys & Girls Club of North County for their Diamond Gala at Pechanga Resort, which raises funds for programs like homework help, sports, arts, music, healthy habits, and helping them to reach their full potential. On May 6th, in honor of women’s history month, we are partnering with Girls Rising for their STEM fair, where girls in elementary, middle, and high school will be able to hear from a broad range of professionals at all career levels, and will be able to enjoy interactive workshops, guest speakers, and more! Only July 12th, we are hosting a blood drive at our office with the San Diego Blood Bank! For more information, visit https://pravacsi.com/

Women Leading Equitable Change Through Social Mobility
A conversation with the presidents leading higher education institutions in North San Diego County

SAN DIEGO, CA – March 1, 2023 – North County Philanthropy Council is excited to announce its first in-person, quarterly luncheon of 2023. In honor of International Women’s Day, NCPC is hosting the Women Leading Equitable Change in North County Luncheon on March 20, 2023, from 12PM – 2PM, at Cal State University San Marcos.

Moderated by Patricia Prado Olmos, CSUSM Chief Community Engagement Officer, the panel includes the Presidents for all three higher education institutions in North County: CSUSM President Dr. Ellen Neufeldt, Palomar College President Dr. Star Rivera-Lacey, and MiraCosta Community College President Dr. Sunita Cooke. Attendees will join this panel of influential women in higher education leadership as they discuss their journey to uplift our North County community through leveraging community engagement. Conversation themes will focus on the unique challenges women leaders face and how they collaborate across our region to support their institutional missions. It will be a celebration of inclusive leadership and a conversation about the importance of inclusivity and community partnerships to elevate our region.

“As we continue to make justice, diversity, equity and inclusion a through-line in everything we do, we want to recognize the impact that women have when they are in positions of power. We’ve seen a lot of companies and organizations talking about their efforts in driving initiatives that will support a more inclusive and diverse environment, but we still have a long road ahead for our communities to reach equity.” Monica Martinez, Managing Director – North County Philanthropy Council said. “This is why we chose to give these amazing leaders a platform to talk about how the perspective and approach of women can help foster environments that truly drive change in our communities by focusing on equity.” Visit https://ncphilanthropy.org/event/ncpc-luncheon-women-leading-change-in-north-county to learn more or register for the event.

Meet Our Members: 365 Events San Diego

365 Events San Diego on Working with Purpose – Discover Why Engaging Volunteers in 2023 is Crucial for Improving Corporate Culture

According to a survey by Alaya Good, 72% of the next generation of workers said a job where they can make an impact is important to their happiness. As an employer, some of the benefits you can bring to helping your employees find their purpose is undeniable:

  • Engaging the workforce by serving the community through volunteerism
  • Making a positive impact for a common cause
  • Creating a sense of well being among employees
  • Improving brand perception

In 2019, Teresa Miller and Carlen Haag joined forces—with over 30 years of combined experience—to create 365 Events San Diego with hopes of inspiring a strong sense of community through shared experiences. In alignment with NCPC, 365 Events San Diego promotes and strengthens charitable impacts within our communities by connecting corporations with non-profits in need.

“Corporate volunteerism is one of the pillars of—and essential to—a company’s social responsibility program”, say the Co-Founders.

As COVID-19 changed the way the world functioned, corporations saw employee morale and engagement opportunities plummet. Today, corporations are now seeing the need to re-invest in ways to build their teams outside of the office. One of the best ways is through cause-based volunteer service events with a common goal in mind. What better way to re-establish an atmosphere of empowerment and engagement than to volunteer with your team?

365 Events San Diego already works with over 100 organizations that are supporting a variety of causes from homelessness, veterans, foster youth, park revitalization, and so much more. We can create a variety of custom opportunities for companies:

  • Half Day and One Day Service Projects
  • Kids Connect
  • Week of Service
  • Ongoing CSR volunteer programs
  • Corporate functions
  • Nonprofit event management

In 2021, we created 365 Connect, a 501c3 that helps those who are looking to help others and addresses the critical needs of the San Diego Community. Areas of service include:

  • Assisting corporations that have resources and are looking for causes that align with their mission
  • Donor funding
  • Grant research, writing, and management
  • Cause-related marketing and events

Corporate volunteering programs are a powerful tool for fostering happier, healthier workplaces while being a force for good! Let 365 Events SD and NCPC help you make 2023 the best year yet for your employees and your community!
