Thank you to the North County Philanthropy Council and its members for your continued contributions to making San Diego a better place to live for all. What we benefit from most in being an NCPC member is that together, we are stronger, more resilient, and better equipped to tackle the challenges our community faces.
As a community foundation, Coastal Community Foundation has played a crucial role in bringing together stakeholders to drive positive change through philanthropic efforts since 1987. It is our mission to provide a platform for donors, nonprofits, business, and community members to collaborate on initiatives to address local challenges and support community wellbeing and promote environmental sustainability. Our motto is “Live here, Give here!”
By leveraging resources, knowledge and networks, it is our goal to make a significant impact in creating a better, more inclusive community for all residents while also striving to protect and preserve the environment. We do this by:
- Providing a flexible way for donors with varied philanthropic desires to make a positive difference in areas of interest.
- Collaborating with individuals, families, and businesses as partners to fulfill their charitable goals and address community needs.
- Making grants to support nonprofit programs and community projects.
- Supporting nonprofits in developing strategic giving options with their donor bases.
- Serving as a resource for philanthropy education and services.
- Helping professional advisors serve their clients.
Donors who establish funds at Coastal Community Foundation gain a range of benefits tailored to their philanthropic goals and financial circumstances. They have the flexibility to design gift plans aligned with their charitable passions while maximizing tax deductions. Additionally, they receive insights from foundation staff on critical issues and guidance on charitable giving. By joining a charitable community, donors can increase their impact and effectiveness.
This past year, Coastal Community Foundation granted more than $1.46 million in grants (23% increase from the previous year) directly benefiting our community and growing its total assets to over $10 million. The organization enhanced its operational efficiency with significant technology upgrades and relocated to the historic Ecke Family home, reinforcing its commitment to North County San Diego.
Examples of key accomplishments included funding the West PACE Shallow Subsidy Pilot project with a Safe & Stable Housing Fund grant to support senior housing stability, awarding college scholarships to 47 aspiring young adults, our women’s giving circle, Hand to Hand, grew to 82 women learning about nonprofits across the county who funded their good work to empower women and girls to achieve self-sufficiency. We have also undergone significant organizational changes, focusing on capacity building to better serve our donors.
Partnerships with nonprofits like the Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA) were strengthened in 2023, facilitating strategic growth and long-term financial stability. Looking ahead, CCF is focusing on its strategic impact pillars of education, mental health, housing stability, and expanding community philanthropy to further enhance the quality of life in the region.
