Providing Kids & Teens with the Tools to Build Great Futures
Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos (BGCSM) aims to promote the wellness, health, and success of school-aged youth in the San Marcos community. Driven by its mission to inspire and enable all young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens, BGCSM offers targeted academic, collaborative, and recreational activities that encourage young learners to become the community’s next generation of responsive, purposeful leaders.
Since its inception in 1979, BGCSM has strived to empower youth to reach their academic and personal goals. More than 20 programs are driven by this goal, working to complement one another in pursuit of three priority outcomes: Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character and Citizenship. BGCSM offers comprehensive programming to a diverse community of nearly 4,000 members each year, many of whom are from historically marginalized communities. Tailored to youth from ages 6-18, programs are offered at 12 locations throughout San Marcos, including two standalone Clubhouses, eight school-based sites, and two low-income apartment sites.
In 2022, the organization celebrated the launch of its Walter J. & Betty C. Zable Foundation Branch, a new standalone Clubhouse located in the heart of an affordable housing community. The branch was opened in partnership with the City of San Marcos and now serves an additional 125 elementary school-aged youth each day, furthering the organization’s mission-driven work to expand its footprint and impact on the community.
