Adjoin is a California-based nonprofit organization that was founded in 1983 as the North County Career Development Program. Originally created to provide vocational programs for individuals with disabilities exiting high school, Adjoin has since expanded its services to various populations in diverse communities throughout California.
Its primary sources of funding come from the Regional Centers for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and the State Department of Rehabilitation. In 2011, Adjoin added a new funding source from the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide services to Veteran families who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of becoming homeless.
In 1989, Adjoin became the first exclusively community-based program in California to be nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. This year, the organization has expanded its services to include Catalyst Independent Living Services in Orange County, an Art program in Imperial Valley, an educational program called Inflight Skills Academy, and a unique mobile application matching individuals with developmental disabilities to service providers throughout California.
