If you mention Sharyn Goodson’s name to anyone, you always get a huge smile and respond with overwhelming praise – What an amazing woman she is… Oh my gosh that woman has been so helpful to our organization… Is there a more passionate, kind human being on the planet?

Sharyn consistently goes above and beyond to help any organization for the betterment of people and our communities. She truly works 24/7, giving selflessly of her time, expertise, and treasures. I have never met anyone quite like her and (along with so many others that I’ve talked to) owe so much of my organization’s success to her mentorship and support.

SPIRIT OF CAROL SIGELMAN AWARD | CATHERINE SOUSA

For 23 years Catherine has volunteered and provided nutritious food to those in need. She has served as president of the Board of Directors for FFP for 4 years.

It was through her and her husband’s financial generosity that the Food Pantry was able to acquire their existing premises. It was her foresight and dedication that encouraged FFP to open the Sousa Family Learning Center.

She recognized the desire that most of their clients have to change their existing circumstances. She helped develop the main mission of the Sousa Family Learning Center which now helps hundreds of clients at 9 different locations. She is a kind, generous, unassuming, person, and brings joy to everyone who interacts with her. She has given thousands of hours of her time and talent helping improve the lives of those in need.

Efforts in North County: with MANA de North County-Latinas in Business Roundtable & STEM panel for middle/ H.S Students (7 years), Rotary 78 (Founding member), Empowering Latino futures and Migrand Ed

Involvement in boards/advisory: MANA de North County, Burnham Center, San Diego Hispanic Chamber, National Latina Business Women Association, Kim Center for Social Balance, San Ysidro Health Council, SDEBA (LGTBQ+) and San Diego Business Women Center.

  • 600+ financial literacy workshops English/Spanish-impacting 4,000+ San Diegans.
  • Mentors/educators for Unidos in Finance (in partnership with MAAC).
  • Organizer- National Latina Day Conference w/ MANA of North County
  • With AMNA Foundation provided financial literacy education to Ukrainian refugee families (55 families)
  • Blood/ food/ school supplies drive
  • Free App for Financial literacy ZOGO (Spanish/English)
